* (Wayback Machine archive from June 24, 2007) Multiplayer support is also enabled, allowing up to four players to bowl and keep track of their scores during a game. When the upgrade has been purchased and installed, four additional lanes are installed. The version of HyperBowl included in Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP contains two of the six lanes initially available (Classic and Roman) and is designed for a single player. The game ends when all ten frames have been played by all players. The game features a display keeping track of all players' scores, similar to the displays found in traditional bowling alleys. Many of the courses feature obstacles that must be avoided to successfully reach the pins, such as moving vehicles in the Japan and San Francisco levels, and trees in the Yosemite level. A clock at the upper-right corner of the lane window displays the remaining time. However, the ball is under the player's control at all times by rolling the trackball or moving the mouse. The player must knock down as many of the ten pins as possible within thirty seconds.

Hyperbowl plays similar to a standard game of bowling. It was created by Microsoft, and can only be accessed by downloading a Microsoft Plus! CD-ROM, enabling other games and accessories, like The Labyrinth Plus! Edition and music-related items such as a CD label maker, which was only originally available for the Windows XP operating system, although Plus! for Windows XP also works seamlessly with Windows Vista. Hyperbowl Plus! Edition is a 3-D bowling-style game made in 2001 by HyperEntertainment.

Good luck with that! License keys are not included. The Arcade Edition downloads on this page are of the original Hyper Entertainment version for Windows 98 to XP (not the version actually in arcades), no longer supported but included here for those who want to try to it on modern PCs.

On Android, Chrome will always complain about downloading Android apps outside Google Play, but any other browser should be OK. You can run the game by control-clicking on the game and selecting Open fron the menu. On macOS Catalina or later, double-clicking the game will show an "unverified developer" warning. Pinch to pause on iOS, back button on Android to pause. On iOS and Android, swipe the screen to roll the ball (pro tip: longer swipes to roll with more force). ESC to pause. The mouse/trackpad also can push the ball in a manner similar to the bowling ball controller (like a big trackball) used in the original attraction game. On macOS and Windows, roll the ball using AWSD or arrow keys. HyperBowl's home base is now here on itch.io as (macOS, Windows, and Android), on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, and on Steam for macOS and Windows.Īfter working on this for ten years (got the Classic lane running on iOS back in 2009!), I've stopped using Unity, for my own projects, but I'll keep this version of HyperBowl available as long as it's still running, and maybe one of these days I'll get it running on a new engine, In the meantime, I put the Unity scripts (but not the licensed assets or original code) on Github.

This licensed remake of HyperBowl, the bowling game launched over twenty years ago in the Sony Metreon, includes all six original lanes (Classic, Rome, Forest, High Seas, San Francisco, Tokyo) plus a few new ones. Be the ball! Enjoy the scenery, but remember to head for the pins!
